Bonjour! We are Sydney and Erin, and we are excited to share what our group got up to today!
We started with an early wake up call to make sure we had time to pack and fuel up before our ~2 hour train to Nantes. Throughout the ride, all of us enjoyed some relaxation and took in the beautiful scenery.
After we arrived, we dropped off our belongings and headed into the main shopping plaza in the city. We all split up to explore the different shops and try various food spots.

We went to a little pasta shop named Francesca’s and a chocolaterie to enjoy our first macarons of the trip! |
We reconvened after a bit to take a scenic route back to our hotel. Our favorite sites being the Botanical Garden and the Château des Ducs de Bretagne, a castle here in Nantes. We will spend more time exploring both places later this weekend, but we certainly enjoyed the views! Philip surely would have loved it :(
This is the Château des Ducs de Bretagne! It has a moat that wraps around the entire building that we spotted some turtles swimming in.
We checked into the hotel and took some much needed rest and rejuvenation. Before dinner, we decided to walk back to the shopping plaza to continue to browse the many stores and streets - there is a lot to see. Our group in particular has seemed to enjoy thrift stores and little jewelry spots the most! We have been working on our French, especially in the stores, and every person we have come into contact with here has been very friendly and spent time chatting with us.
It was finally dinner time and we all reunited once again outside of Au Vieux Quimper, a rustic creperie spot with classic Breton roots. We were so excited to have Alixia Thuau, who works at the Agence Culturelle Bretonne, join us for a second year in a row to tell us about Breton/Brittany and education in France. We enjoyed galettes for our main course, which are crêpe-like dishes made from buckwheat and traditional crêpes for dessert. After a delicious meal and wonderful conversation we headed back to the hotel to rest up for our first school visit tomorrow!
